Love is extending Grace

Noticing something new. Here's a large excerpt from the Sermon on the Mount. Note the context:

"You have heard that it was said, 'You shall love your neighbor and hate your enemy.'
But I say to you, love your enemies, bless those who curse you, do good to those who hate you, and pray for those who spitefully use you and persecute you, that you may be sons of your Father in heave; for He makes His sun rise on the evil and on the good, and sends rain on the just and on the unjust. For if you love those who love you, what reward have you? Do not even the tax collectors do the same? And if you greet your brethren only, what do you do more than others? Do not even the tax collector do so? THEREFORE, you shall be perfect, just as your Father in heaven is perfect." [Matthew 5:43-48]

Here's a whole teaching on love. But, it concludes with "be perfect." Haven't you often wondered how that is? Gray explained to me that this is extending grace, whether you/they deserve it or not. Rain on the just and the unjust, shows God's grace. Perfection evidently is embodied in extending grace. Extend grace today.

  1. I was just talking to a friend over dinner about this - the whole loving the unlovable thing. It's easy for me to love on the orphans here - y'all have the tough job! Preach it Dix! I love reading your blog and being reminded that LOVING each other, just as God LOVES us is THE point.
